Joshua Youngblood, President
I have been a board member since July 2006. I work as a historian for the State Archives of Florida, Florida Department of State. A native of Monroe, Louisiana, I spent much of my childhood between there and Augusta, Georgia, where my mother still lives. I first came to Florida for graduate school, and after marrying and moving to and from Atlanta, I settled down in the Florida panhandle. My wife, Teresa, our sons, Woody and Fox, and I have made our home in one of the historic neighborhoods in downtown Tallahassee. We have found here a community and diversity unlike any other town in the South, with a vital and growing progressive center embodied by New Leaf Market. It is a pleasure to serve the Co-op as best I can.
Jim Terrell, Vice President
Jim Terrell has been a board member for two years. He plays a very active role, contributing to several committees and recently played a pivotal role in the owner loan program. Both of his sons enjoy working at New Leaf Market and he and his family have a rich history both supporting the Co-op and other important community organizations.
Jennifer Agabiti-Hall, Director
Jennifer Hall has been an owner of the Co-op since November 2004 when she moved to Tallahassee from Atlanta. She is a local chiropractor, clinical nutritionist, and group fitness instructor. Jennifer was appointed to the Board in September 2006. She was very active in the owner loan program as one of the designated callers and currently serves on both the owner communications & community outreach board committees. Jennifer hopes to continue to serve on the Board and help in any way possible to ensure the healthy future of New Leaf Market!
Maria Cobian, Director
In 1986, when I moved to Tallahassee, my family and I immediately became members of the food co-op. One of the areas I feel I will contribute to the NLM Board of Directors involves my experiences in education, community activism and my degree in social anthropology. I wish to enhance community outreach programs, particular among Hispanics and other minorities. I am dedicated to seeking alternative ways to live, ways that nourish the earth that sustains us. I believe New Leaf Market already contributes enormously to the quality of life in Tallahassee, and I am committed to collaborate with others on the NLM’s Board of Directors to continue to bring positive changes to our cooperative market and the larger community.
Heidi Fox, Facilitator
I’ve been actively involved with New Leaf Market/Leon County Food co-op for over 25 years. I served on the Board in various capacities for about 10 years. I currently share facilitation responsibilities with Martha Weinstein. I enjoy working with the consensus process. It is amazing to see how easily decisions can be made when people are committed to the same vision and mission.
Madelon Horwich, Director
I have been an owner of the New Leaf Market for 23 years, back when it was the Leon County Food Co-op on Gaines. My kids, Marcy and Phillip, have grown up with New Leaf Market as a resource for healthful food and a sense of community. For years I took for granted that New Leaf Market would always be there for us, and now I am honored to be able to give back to the Co-op.
Chuck Hungerford, Director
The Leon County Food Co-op, now New Leaf Market, has been a part of my life since I came to Tallahassee in 1981. I have been a member worker, prior board member, chairperson, and Board President and now serve as a director. Over the years, my contributions to New Leaf have been returned ten-fold in friendships formed, knowledge of organic and natural foods obtained, and being part of a larger, supportive, and progressive community.
Jeannette Reed, Director
Having been appointed to the Board in December, 2007, I was elected to my first full term in 2008. My business background has been that of owner/manager of a retail store, restaurant, and a real estate brokerage office. As a result, I find that being a part of a co-operative presents a unique opportunity for all of us to know what it is like to participate in a business model that, in light of our current economic environment, offers great potential. I am excited to be a part of the vision of New Leaf Market and encourage all owners to share in that excitement. NLM has had a tremendous impact on our community and will continue to set the standard by providing healthful products, unparalleled service and education. It is my pleasure to be able to contribute anything that I can to further our successful presence in the community!
Dave Watson, Director
Passionate about small business and its possibilities to better meet the needs of a community, Dave Watson is now enjoying his third term as a Board member at New Leaf Market. He has a degree from East Carolina University and sold a profitable business in North Carolina to move to Florida in 1980. He has worked for small business, Homestead Imprinted Sportswear, since 1983. “New Leaf feels like home to me and stands out as something we share that is unique to Tallahassee.
Martha Weinstein, Facilitator
One never knows what part of their life will become a lifelong part of them. The common thread in my life for the 31 years I've lived in Tallahassee has been the Food Co-op and New Leaf Market. I've been a part of it, and it is a part of me. I started out as a weekly volunteer; then, for 6 years, I was a member of the collective that managed the Co-op; I've served on the board of directors; and now I am one of the board facilitators. My, how we've both grown during these years!
June Wiaz, Director
June joined the New Leaf Market Board in 2007. She works as a clinical dietitian in Quincy, Florida, and her career goal is to be involved in disease prevention. In that regard, work on the New Leaf board is very satisfying because it supports the notion of heading disease off at the proverbial pass. Her previous professional background is in the environmental field. June enjoys biking, gardening, hiking, kayaking, cooking, reading, spending time with her teenagers when they have free moments, and being on the Board of New Leaf Market! She's honored to be serving in that capacity.
