2009 Scholarship Winners

Natural Times November/December 2009

By Denise Tansey

This year’s scholarship winners were announced at the annual ownership meeting on August 22 at Goodwood Museum and Gardens. Although both young ladies were unable to attend, we noted their accomplishments.

The 11th Annual New Leaf Market/Matthew Tansey Memorial Scholarship for health, healing and nutrition went to Lini Jackson, a graduate of SAIL High School. She was a member of the drama club as a choreographer as well as an actor. While at TCC she ended up leading and then teaching the dance company. Lini graduates this month from the CORE Institute’s Professional Massage Therapy program, and will continue on into the Master Practitioner Certificate program. She would like to help athletes and dancers in their training, but is also interested in working with the mentally ill, pregnant mothers and infants.

The 4th Annual New Leaf Market/Bryce Buchanan Memorial Scholarship for the arts goes to Greer Lawson. This is her first semester at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Greer is a recent graduate of Rickards High School, where she was president of the art club and vice president of the French club. She volunteered at 621 Gallery and was a teen leader at the LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts, where she received a merit award for her comic art and a welded sculpture. She painted a mural for the recent Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s visit to Tallahassee. She was also nominated for Best and Brightest in Art by World Class Schools of Leon County, Inc. Greer’s specialty is her comic art, where she blends mythology, animals, fantasy, and art from different cultures. Greer would like to teach others about art, animals and animal issues, and sell her own comic strips and books.

We wish the best of luck to both scholarship recipients in their endeavors!
